{"id":766,"date":"2009-09-19T08:24:20","date_gmt":"2009-09-19T12:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zebopana.kinsta.cloud\/?p=766"},"modified":"2019-03-23T21:02:22","modified_gmt":"2019-03-24T01:02:22","slug":"the-last-days-of-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rebeccabarger.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/19\/the-last-days-of-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"The Last Days of Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We \u00a0had a wonderful summer! \u00a0We went swimming and relaxed \u00a0in Cape May, the Berkshire Mountains and also spent a week in Ocean City, NJ. \u00a0Below is my favorite personal photo of the summer 2009. \u00a0It was on September 2nd, 2009, in Cape May that will be measured as a monumental day in our family history. On that day, my daughter fell in love with the ocean! \u00a0She has been visiting the beach since she was 5 months old \u00a0when she took her first ocean swim in the Bahamas. But on Sept. 2nd, 7 years after that first \u00a0swim, everything came together for her on appreciating the magnitude and beauty of the ocean!<\/p>\n<p>Personal Note: \u00a0When I attempt to envision &#8220;God&#8221; I see the ocean.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-767\" title=\"rebeccabarger00\" src=\"http:\/\/barger.goodgallery.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/rebeccabarger00.jpg\" alt=\"rebeccabarger00\" width=\"785\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above photo (and the underwater photos below) were taken with a $300. amateur digital camera. \u00a0Interesting mages are about the photographers vision, not necessarily the equipment. \u00a0In other words, you don&#8217;t need expensive, complicated equipment to take great photos!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Love that necklace!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-772\" title=\"rebeccabarger05\" src=\"http:\/\/barger.goodgallery.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/rebeccabarger05.jpg\" alt=\"rebeccabarger05\" width=\"875\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-768\" title=\"rebeccabarger01\" src=\"http:\/\/barger.goodgallery.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/rebeccabarger01.jpg\" alt=\"rebeccabarger01\" width=\"785\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can see the water on the camera lens.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-769\" title=\"rebeccabarger02\" src=\"http:\/\/barger.goodgallery.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/rebeccabarger02.jpg\" alt=\"rebeccabarger02\" width=\"872\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Playing in a lake in Great Barrington, Massachusettes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-770\" title=\"rebeccabarger03\" src=\"http:\/\/barger.goodgallery.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/rebeccabarger03.jpg\" alt=\"rebeccabarger03\" width=\"785\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Above is my attempt at underwater photography, which is really quite difficult. \u00a0My best friend from college at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, \u00a0is the renowned underwater photographer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.essickphoto.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Todd Essick<\/a>. \u00a0We each interned at The Miami Herald and graduated with the &#8220;Best Photography Portfolio&#8221; of our classes. \u00a0Todd combined his love of underwater wildlife photography and nude women and is now famous for it! \u00a0See the cover of his first book <a title=\"Todd's book cover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.paperbackswap.com\/book\/details\/9781876381042-Beginnings+Goddesses+Sirens+and+Mermaids\">here<\/a>. \u00a0Some people are talented and some people are lucky, Todd is both! \u00a0He just finished shooting the German version of America&#8217;s Next Top Model with <a title=\"Todd's underwater photo of Heidi Klum\" href=\"http:\/\/www.page2live.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/todd10.jpg\">Heidi Klum<\/a> and I had to listen to every single last detail. Here is one of \u00a0Todd Essick&#8217;s \u00a0awesome nature \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnh.si.edu\/exhibits\/ocean%20views\/gallery\/manatee.html\">images <\/a>\u00a0, and he personally dragged me to the see it on display, as big as a billboard at The Smithsonian in DC. I edited a wedding in the car on the way! \u00a0 Todd recently moved his home base from Miami to Kuala Lumpur , and we are hoping to visit him there in 2010. Malaysian food is my favorite, and there is only one real Malaysian restaurant in Philly! \u00a0I&#8217;m hungry&#8230;Kuala Lumpur, here we come!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-771\" title=\"rebeccabarger04\" src=\"http:\/\/barger.goodgallery.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/rebeccabarger04.jpg\" alt=\"rebeccabarger04\" width=\"410\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the morning, while working on my laptop, I enjoyed coffee on the 4th floor deck of \u00a0our beachfront hotel room in Cape May.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-773\" title=\"rebeccabarger06\" src=\"http:\/\/barger.goodgallery.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/rebeccabarger06.jpg\" alt=\"rebeccabarger06\" width=\"785\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Below are photos shot circa 1990 in Ocean City for a Philadelphia Inquirer Sunday Magazine photo essay on the &#8220;wanna be&#8221; young boys learning to surf. \u00a0Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist \u00a0<a title=\"Tom's current Inquirer photo blog\" href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/blogs\/inq-on-the-road\/\">Tom Gralish<\/a> was my photo editor on this project and coaxed me along the entire summer. \u00a0Tom was always willing to share his creative vision, \u00a0helping me become a better photojournalist. \u00a0Thanks, Tom! \u00a0The best part of this essay was I got the Inquirer to foot the bill for several overnight trips down the shore! \u00a0Thanks again, Tom! \u00a0The below photos are also published in the book, <a title=\"4 seasons at shore book\" href=\"http:\/\/www.down-the-shore.com\/fourseas.html\">\u00a0Four Seasons at The Shore ,<\/a>a coffee table book collection of photography that every NJ beach house must have!
